An Evening at Dalloz Contemporary
I’m writing this on the train home from London after attending the private view of Botanical Forms at Dalloz Contemporary.
The exhibition brings together a group of contemporary artists, each exploring botanical themes in their own unique way, and it was a privilege to see the works displayed together within the gallery space.
While so much of the process of creating paintings happens quietly in the studio, evenings like this provide a welcome opportunity to step away from the solitude of making and connect with the people who engage with the work. It was lovely to meet all of the visitors, collectors and fellow artists.
The collection I created for the exhibition marks a return to florals, a subject that has always found its way back into my work. Rather than focusing on precise representations, these paintings explore the feeling of flowers; their movement, fragility and energy. Through layered colour, loose forms and expressive marks, I wanted to create works that feel atmospheric and open to interpretation.
Seeing the paintings installed together reinforced something I’ve been thinking about throughout the creation of this collection; how much inspiration can be found in the imperfect. Fading petals, tangled stems, shifting colours and fleeting moments of beauty all became starting points for these pieces.
One of the highlights of the evening was seeing visitors spend time with the work and hearing the feelings the paintings evoked. It’s always fascinating how a painting can mean something entirely different to each person who encounters it.
I’m incredibly grateful to Dalloz Contemporary for including my work in the exhibition and for creating such a welcoming and thoughtfully curated show.
If you’re in London over the coming weeks, Botanical Forms continues at Dalloz Contemporary and I would love for you to visit if you have the opportunity.
Thank you, as always, for following along and supporting my work. Whether you’ve collected a piece, visited an exhibition, shared a post or simply taken the time to read these updates, it means more than you know.
Cher x
