SOFT, ATMOSPHERIC PAINTINGS… LIKE A MEMORY SLIGHTLY OUT OF FOCUS.

WELCOME

I’m Cher — an abstract artist, wife and mum to two young children.

My practice began with a quiet space at home and has since grown into a full-time career, creating paintings that explore atmosphere, movement and the subtle shifts found in the natural world.

I now exhibit regularly through galleries and art fairs, with my work held in private collections across the UK.

What inspires me?

My work is rooted in nature, often beginning with landscapes or florals before shifting into something more intuitive.

I’m interested in suggestion rather than definition and allowing forms to emerge and dissolve, sitting somewhere between abstraction and recognition, like a memory that is not fully fixed.

My practice moves in phases, guided by what I’m noticing in the natural world and the mood of a particular moment or season. This keeps the work open and evolving, while still connected through a consistent visual language.

There is a quietness within the work, balanced by movement and gestural marks. It sits between stillness and expression; gentle and grounded with a subtle sense of strength.

MY PROCESS

I work primarily with acrylic on canvas, building up thin, translucent layers that interact with one another. Each mark is a response to what has come before, allowing the painting to evolve naturally over time.

Colour plays a central role. I’m drawn to muted, layered palettes with soft shifts in tone, often influenced by season or mood. Rather than strong contrast, I focus on depth, transparency and subtle transitions.

This process creates a sense of history within the surface, where earlier layers remain visible, giving the work its soft atmospheric quality.

Each painting is resolved through instinct. I know it’s finished when it feels balanced and when it’s something I would choose to live with in my own home.
